Wii Sports (1, 2, and Resort)

Explanation:

Ever since Nintendo released Wii Sports (it came with the Wii), it was a hit, especially with the older crowd. The sports on the first Wii Sports were golf, tennis, boxing, baseball, and bowling. The game uses the Wii controllers, which have motion tracking, to immerse you inside the sport. When you play baseball, you hit a button (one for curve, fastball, etc.)  and then throw your arm down to ‘pitch’, while the batter simply swings his bat (the harder you swing, the further the ball goes). Wii Sports was the first real showcase of the Wii’s capabilities. Many Wii game developers have tried to match the game with their own versions, such as “Tiger Woods Golf”, which concentrated solely on golf, and was a major hit. So Nintendo game developers thought, “Why not make a new one?”. They released the second version, named Wii  Sports Resort II. It added on to the previous game, plus added others, such as ping pong. Wii Sports Resort was then developed as a cross between the two, plus tons of extra sports (even some hobbies!). Wii Sports Resort (WSR) featured Air Sports (dogfights, island flyover, and skydiving), Basketball (3 point shot contest, tournament, and dual), Cycling, and many others.

Review:

7/10

Wii Sports was definitely a hit. Because of its originality, and because it showcased the Wii’s capabilities in gratifying ways, we give it 5 stars. The next 2 were for the fact that the first one was free, and that the rest were reasonably priced (no $60.00 beginning price!). A couple improvements could have been made. First off, the graphics are terrible. Most people that get the Wii aren’t exactly picky about this, but it was definitely a downside. Also, the accuracy of the putter on Golf was horrible. It would swing when you didn’t, and not swing when you did. The levels were evenly matched (on all WS games, you work up the latter, from beginner to pro), and the games built fairly simple. Because of all of those things combined, we give it a 7/10 rating.
